The Gap Year Program is a 1:1 program for students that have academic and learning related gaps that have been selected to be retained or are not ready for the next school year. This programming would provide students 24 hours/week (Monday - Thursday, 6 hours/day), with 1:1 instruction specifically focused on identified gaps. Direct instruction will include literacy-related deficiencies, problem solving struggles, working memory and processing related difficulties, as well as comprehension and expression focus.
Our student profile may include students with identification of struggles/diagnosis in reading, writing, math, executive functioning, anxiety, ADHD, high functioning ASD, expressive/receptive language, and general school-related struggles. We are not equipped to take students with moderate to severe social/emotional or behavioral difficulties. The student will spend a gap (retained) year with us to really focus on their areas of need with the intention of returning back to a group setting the following year. Students that will be repeating (gap) grades 1 - 8 are eligible for our programming.
Besides academic foundational work (such as Orton-Gillingham, multi sensory math focused instruction, and explicit writing and grammar instruction), our programming will include focus on strategies to improve processing, cognition, and executive functioning. Specific individualized instruction will embed practices that incorporate memory, comprehension, attention, quantitative reasoning, cognitive flexibility, and academic skills.
