FAQs

Home » About Us » FAQs
What makes Engage the Brain different? Expand

EtB is a locally owned and operated, educationally-based learning center. We strive to place our students with specialists that truly match their area of need. Not only is the identified area of need important to us, but your child’s confidence and emotional trust are key components. Our specialists stay up to date with the latest evidence-based research and strategies to give our students an optimal learning experience.

How can I learn more about EtB? Expand

Request a free 20-minute phone or Zoom consultation. This is a great opportunity for us to share more about EtB, and to learn more about your learner.

What types of one-on-one services do you offer? Expand

We offer two levels of one-on-one service. Our Academic Support Services are designed for students that are needing support with current grade level skills and strategies. It is a hybrid between school support and intervention. Students typically bring in their school work, and our specialists create individualized plans to guide them with explicit instruction. They may develop supplemental related activities to further develop certain areas of need.

Our Intervention services provide solely intervention. Students receiving intervention typically display characteristics of a learning difference, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia. Instruction begins where a student is currently performing, and then the Learning Specialist slowly introduces skills using a multisensory and direct instruction approach. Intervention includes specialized services that are designed to target specific weaknesses. Sessions might incorporate  Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, Speech/Language Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Intense Executive Functioning Therapy, or Multisensory Math.

How do you work with Homeschool Families? Expand

We offer several services to our homeschoolers. They can come to EtB to receive one-on-one Academic Support or Intervention. They may select to participate in our Homeschool Hybrid, “North Park Learning Group,” as a full-time student or they can select classes a la carte. Homeschoolers that need annual testing or evaluations may meet with one of our certified teachers for a portfolio review or for standardized testing.

What ages, grades, and subject areas does EtB work with? Expand

EtB services students PreK - Adult. We provide Academic Support and Intervention for all foundational skills in reading, writing, math, and executive functioning. We provide academic support services for upper level math (through pre-calculus) and science. We do not provide services for college entrance exams, such as SAT or ACT.

Do you service students virtually? Expand

EtB is available globally. We use Zoom platform to “meet” our students around the world. Using various technological games and systems, we make learning interactive and personalized.

What services do you provide to support schools? Expand

We love working with schools.  Our school support services can include:

  • providing intervention or academic support for students
  • assisting school support teams with observations, families meetings, developing accommodation plans, and academic testing
  • teacher support, training, and guidance with best practices

EtB is proud to provide schools with specialized resources that they may not have available.  Students are able to stay in their mainstream setting, while the families use EtB providers to work with students and the school.
